Disclaimer: “I AM NOT A HATER, I AM ACTUALLY A BURNA BOY CRUSADER AND BELIEVE HE IS AMONG THE MUSICAL ELITE IN NIGERIA, AN ELITE LIST OF MINE THAT FEATURES DAREY, NNEKA, ASA, FELA, 2 FACE etc….”

I am just a disappointed fan, Burna Boy is a HUGE music talent and when I saw a NEW album- African Giant, I did a double back flip (In my mind though). This is the season of good music, not since D’banj has the musical gods smiled this hard on African music. Brown Skin Girl and the entire rave then this (Never mind whatever O.B.O is doing, yep, on that one I agree, I am a hater, promoted noise that one). Continue reading

In a sane society this insane movie should attract the largest crowd at movie theatres. The story is so great but sadly as all great Nollywood classics go, Coming from Insanity went unnoticed and struggled to get viewership among “mediocre” STORIES

  • Aladdin (a sad cartoon remake; Hollywood is truly done, no more stories, they are only out to ruin our Disney childhood)
  • Anna (a silly reboot of LUCY/ATOMIC BLONDE/SPARROW, not since SALT have they got a female spy themed movie right, how much we miss Angelina Jolie)

Directed By: Kunle Afolayan

“It’s a Yoruba Movie oh” The warning I got from the lady handing me my movie ticket

“I know! It has subtitles right?” Like I was going to let anything stop me from seeing the highly anticipated Kunle Afolayan (Best director/producer; RE: The Best Thing @ NazRev) movie. The show times for the movie (11:10am and 7:30pm) told me all I needed to know, another thought out Nigerian movie sidelined for the likes of Godzilla and Dark Phoenix. The dream of having sold out auditoriums for “our good movies” not just the comedies remains laughable. I really don’t know where the problem lies, movies are failing at promotion & publicity or Hollywood infiltrates wouldn’t give us a chance. Perhaps movie release dates should be targeted very far away from Global blockbusters so that movie goers have no choice (Captive audience). The AGN should look into this; maybe an imposed Cinema Quota system would help. Continue reading

Director and Writer: Biodun Stephens

It is the season of Faith based movies, after the hugely successful GOD CALLING; Biodun Stephens delivers another Faith themed master class. The full package, an emotionally charged story that would move you to tears as God’s peace washes over you at the end.

The movie didn’t have a cute Jesus/angel to sell (Ademola Adedoyin in God calling) and despite its many flaws, it dragged itself all the way up to 7 on my 1-10 movie rating scale. Blossom Chukwujekwu (Lamide) didn’t quite put up a great performance, still can be overlooked, as we have learnt from LEVI, it takes more than an awesome performance from the lead actor to make a movie. I would start out with the good: Continue reading

A year ago (actually last week), first thing that popped into my head at the mention of Lion heart was Jean Claude Van Damme’s signature Last fight winning kick. Right now it is safe to say that there is only one LION HEART, Genevieve Nnaji’s OBIAGU…

LION HEART—BRAVE HEART, One thing in common: DIRECTOR EXCELLENCE; Mel Gibson = Genevieve Nnaji Continue reading

It’s been “almost a year” since Africa’s biggest music duo decided to lay bare their Anambrarian-Ego-(pun intended)-above-everything-else. The handling of their split was embarrassing to say the least. Their silly sibling rivalry emphasized the need for Nigerian celebrities to start employing “handlers”. People with a little more sense than they have to project their image, sort out the nasties and make sure the truth is never bitter.

“Good day Psquarians (whatever name P-square fans are called), having spent the past decade working on the P-square brand, Paul and Peter have decided to step out to show their individuality…Two separate heads are better than one (whatever lame excuse they come up with)…It would be business as usual save you get to enjoy music made by each of us in our own image…Today we give you Mr. P and King Rudy…”

You know it would have been extra cheesy if they went “P-square is trying to find their square root”…You can steal Raymond’s face but you can’t buy class… Continue reading

Last week I saw the trailer for this movie and decided that I must see it. I don’t know what had my mind made up-The cast; I love Ufuoma Mcdermott- or All I have heard about Blessing Egbe.

If you haven’t seen this movie and would love to see it— SPOILERS AHEAD!!! You have been warned. Now let’s get to my humble review of this supposed “trend-setter”. Continue reading

I settled for Lana Del Rey inspired blue-jeans-white-shirt costume, I sure did not want to over dress; I wasn’t a star in the movie, there was no need to whip out a three piece…An optical illusion made me believe the premiere would start at 2pm and I arrived SPAR (Filmhouse Cinema Old GRA Port Harcourt) at 1:40 (I’m quite the early bird)…I obtained my ticket from Miss Nkoli Os’kar (the one who scripted the movie and who invited me). She made me see clearly:

Red Carpet 2pm

Premiere by 3pm Continue reading
