How crazy is this? A bill considered to carve out grazing zones for our Fulani herdsmen. Hours spent deliberating on this silly issue, God knows they should have better things to talk about…Imagine the luxury we have, land area to be set apart for cattle rearing in each state, each state! My God…Other countries are not running low on land area, THEY BASICALLY HAVE NO LAND and we want to reserve ours for cattle rather than super infrastructural development (we love Abraham so much don’t we?).
We should be thinking about creating an artificial rain forest in the North where such lifestyle thrives as the desert has been turned to Dubai. Our friends from the North are really dragging great Nigeria backwards…Boko Haram, Fulani Herdsmen and as my grandfather told me they instigated the war of 67 by killing our brothers in their land…Now they’ve come down to our lands to kill us and instead of plans being made to put an end to their blood lust they are soon to be rewarded with portions of our land for their daily business…Curse you Lord Lugard for joining together people from different realms as a country…Did you not see the size of other countries?
A country should be a group of people with similar philosophies, who can co-exist together…I am all for unity but it’s obvious to see that we are not on the same wavelength as these people. They have rejected education, we have accepted it. They have rejected technology, we have embraced it. All they want out of life is grass for their cattle; hand down canes to their sons and their sons after them. All we want from life is growth, development and my dear in an Igbo boy’s voice “More money than we know what to do with.” We want to pass down worth to our children so that they can compete with the global world. I really admire their resolve to stay primitive and stick to the old ways; my oh my it has so many advantages- less worries, less exposure to chemicals, longer life, easy decisions (Be born, rear cattle or mend shoes, marry as much as you can sustain, die, be buried same day without mammoth expense). Wish life was this way, reality is life is not simple and you have to go with the flow. I wonder if they use tissues (technology) or just leave their anuses dirty.
They must learn that this country Nigeria is not made to serve their needs; they are to serve their country for the good of all her citizens. I love beef so much and I’d love to see the cattle business thrive (means more beef for me) but ensuring (albeit by force-rule of law) that they have lands close to my civilized home is unfair to my civilized mind. I just wonder if one Mazi Okeke wakes up one morning to see his land marked off as grazing field for Usman’s cattle…A scene only nollywood can play out…This is no solution, if there’s a problem, fix it; don’t pamper it…I kill a man because I want his fish, to ensure peace, you give me all of his fishes…Doesn’t make sense at all…If you really want to help, you’d give me fish from another source or teach me how to fish….It is sad that there would never be a “Biafra”, perhaps things would have been easier if it was just us…I love Nigeria though and I want one Nigeria plus I never want to experience a war unless we split strictly on diplomatic basis…However as long as we remain Nigeria I say:
“No! Big no to grazing zones in all states rather efforts should be made to make the north suitable for cattle rearing…Forest reserves, artificial rain forests (yes can be done, rain can be made). Cattle must not travel miles to eat (They are however permitted to travel in big lorries down east for my pot’s entertainment). The country should invest more in agriculture and produce more Ota farms”
Justifying this bill means that I can also dream that one day we shall have “market zones” for Igbo boy hustlers to ply their trade in every state (Northern Nigeria included) or land allocated to every cassava farmer in all states or to all women in the textile industry. What if we were another country, are we going to impose another person’s way of life on another?
For:
Grazing zones might be cool. The country shows its power to accommodate the needs of its citizens. The Herdsmen are happy; the rest of us pretend to be happy (There must be compromise in living with people right?). National unity is encouraged. They live with us, we live with them. We find a system that works. Cattle are in close proximity anywhere in the country. One can buy a full pot’s worth with say a thousand naira. All that is left is answering the questions that would arise:
- Whose lands would be allocated? Government owned lands?
- Would grazing zones be made in the Banana Islands and Lekkis of our country or is it only the “local” that get to put up with these people and be exposed to the security risk they bring?
- How is our safety guaranteed? Would the Herdsmen still carry automatic weapons to supposedly protect their cattle or would they stick to canes and daggers?
- How do we ensure that there is no conflict? Would they be warded off in their zones by the armed forces? Forgive us for not trusting these people; I’m sure everyone understands our skepticism.
- Is this really where Nigeria should be focusing her man power and land resources on? Cattle rearing…Do we export those yet? I heard they (the outside world) have refused to eat our yams as they don’t trust our quality assurance systems. Now tell me how these Herdsmen can assure the quality of cows for export if they have rejected development. The weight of the cows is another factor to consider incase the plan is to make Nigeria into a Cattle world power….
So it is clear to see that even in my “For” I am against….Please dear country people let us focus on more important things… Our armed forces should be super concerned on ensuring our safety-all these unnecessary deaths (killings) should really be brought to an end…I long for a developed Nigeria, where our only security threat would be neurologically distorted humans- pedophiles, kleptomaniacs or serial killers lol…Enough of all these Boko Haram, Fulani, Politicians and the rest of our current threats….God Bless Nigeria and may we march on from strength to strength.
