In a sane society this insane movie should attract the largest crowd at movie theatres. The story is so great but sadly as all great Nollywood classics go, Coming from Insanity went unnoticed and struggled to get viewership among “mediocre” STORIES

  • Aladdin (a sad cartoon remake; Hollywood is truly done, no more stories, they are only out to ruin our Disney childhood)
  • Anna (a silly reboot of LUCY/ATOMIC BLONDE/SPARROW, not since SALT have they got a female spy themed movie right, how much we miss Angelina Jolie)

  • MA (cheesy horror flick)
  • Men In Black (which actually features a woman in black and an un-pot bellied Chris Hemsworth, where is the fun in that)
  • Dark Phoenix (failed X-men Swan Song)
  • The Incredible John Wick 3 (stayed for far too long on the big screen owing to its cult fellowship by boys who refuse to grow up)
  • Toy Story 4 (a CARTOON)

Before I digress and talk on and on about how Nigeria is overflowing with endless NEW stories and plots (Screenwriters’ Guild please give me a call) let me get back to the subject matter- this great master piece starring Gabriel Afolayan in lead role.

First off, I have to say we (everyone in the theatre) agreed Kossi’s Togolese accent didn’t quite sit right. I was hooked when I realized the movie was centred on a young man’s obsession with the “Dollar” made even more fascinating by the earlier declaration at the start that it was A TRUE STORY. Kudos to the real life Kossi, he sure did his home work and produced original fake hundred dollar bills which passed all but one test. The lad is a real genius, our own Frank Abagnale.

The script writers are the real MVPs on this one, never mind the cast. The lines had everything, humour, bite and wisdom. I would list out my favourites, GO WATCH THE MOVIE if you want to get them

…Practice doesn’t make perfect, obsession does…

…It was at that point that I mentally resigned as a houseboy…

…If you want to see a real life clown, talk to a Lagos Property agent…

…See what you raised, I raised this one, you raised this one…

…I can hear your brain breathe…

The showcase of our police force as the ACTUAL POLICE was really interesting. Overtime we might actually come to believe that our police do more than take bribe on the streets if more of these stories are told and portrayed (We pray to see less of Udoka Oyeka (Toye) as a detective though, his performance was shifty).

The movie has the perfect story, a sprinkle of veterans (Wale Ojo, Dakore Akande & Tina Mba), an awesome soundtrack, an Odunlade Adekola cameo, cringe worthy moments @ Mama bear talk et al, soft porn @ hot Sharon Ooja, Hijab love and an incredible action sequence @ Rocky’s invasion of the Mallams’ sanctum. Bolanle Ninalowo is our go to muscle man and he murdered this role, the sweats effect was super cool as well. Even though they took the torturing of Kossi too far and ended the movie too soon (We would have loved all those post movie writings acted out), the movie was by far WAY TOO MUCH FUN. It wasn’t your regular African Magic flick or TO GOD BE THE GLORY stories. This was a brilliant retelling of an incredible story that happened in GIDI.

Thank you so much Ibidolapo Ajayi (Producer) and Akinyemi Sebastian Akinropo (Director and Writer), this is my FAVOURITE NOLLYWOOD MOVIE this year 2019 and is on my top 5 of all time bests.

If you haven’t seen it yet, HURRY!
