Bianu by Tunde and Wunmi Obe Ft. Floss
It’s been ages since I listened to an entirely complete song with one of the most refreshing music videos ever made. Tunde and Wunmi Obe really gave my neurons much needed excitement. Here are the multiple reasons why “Bianu” must be on your music playing device and yes every once in a while you need to livestream the video to remind yourself of the awesomeness:
Language: “Bianu”…Igbo word for “Come” (directed to Igwe Mmadu) says it all. Come and experience this wonder. Let me just say this now- I’m Igbo and hearing my language on air sends too many sensations round my body. Reason why my entire dentition shows when I hear Mr. Raw, Phyno, Slow dog and others create magic with it. “Weta Ambulance Ngwangwa” tickles so much. This song reeks of identity—-Nigeria!!!
Unity: Hearing one’s language on air is thrilling but when it comes out from the lips of people from the west (widely believed to have betrayed great biafra during the civil war) it makes it supa-dupa-fly…It speaks volumes as to where we are headed as a nation…A nation that has let go of the past and is working towards peace, unity and harmony among all tribes and regions…Where Amina can speak Igbo and Amaka can rhyme with Hausa…As soon as we tame the herdsmen, we are good to go…It can be argued that they are trying to exploit the large Igbo market (Isreal is everywhere)…
The couple: Seeing man and wife combine to angelic devastating effect is always a welcome sight. These love birds are not out there making a fool of themselves or courting cheap publicity with media stunts/scandals. They are simply enjoying themselves and expressing their unifying love. I bet 50 kobo they met at choir practice lol… The lyrical content tells a story of TWO trying to settle their differences with Floss playing their shrink. This passes the all important message that divorce is never the first option, hell it shouldn’t even be the last…
The Video: I’d go by bullet points to highlight just how special the music video is
- Shot by Clarence Peters (Says everything about quality)
- Atilogwu dancers (just what the doctor prescribed- promoting Nigerian brands…RIP Dora Akunyili, brand advocate number 1)
- No naked girls, no bouncing booties, nothing street yet still glorious
- Wunmi is the prettiest plus size model. You don’t have to be an Omotola or Caroline to exude confidence and the ambiance of an angel. When she voices “Bianu! Oh!”—–Classic.
We need more songs like this accompanied by really extra cool videos. Great work by our favourite music couple. True artistry shall rise above mediocre!!!!!!
